Taking care of the sick

We went to the doctor's this morning and found out Cy has 2 ear infections. Which doesn't surprise me because he was up all night tugging at his ears. Then, when we came home Ella threw up all over my couch! Poor girl, she didn't know what to do. Luckily she hasn't been sick since. She seems to be acting normal. Hopefully we're be all feeling good soon!

He weighs almost 23 lbs and is 31 in. long. He is almost walking by himself. He will let go and take a few steps. I can't believe how quickly this year has gone.

The next Baby Idol

So, for those of you not in Morgantown, WVAQ does a baby idol contest. I put Cyrus in the contest. There are tons of entries, so we'll see what happens! Of course, I think Cyrus is the cutest baby! Here is the picture I used.

First ER visit

Yesterday we had our first emergency room visit. Ella was jumping on my parent's couch and fell off and hit her head. My mom just got done saying, "Ella your going to fall and...", off she went. She had a deep cut right next to her eyebrow. She needed 5 stitches. She was scared to go to the hospital at first. Once we got back in the room and the nurse brought her a stuffed monkey and some stickers she was much better. She did great when the doctor put the stitches in. They had her restrained in this board thing and the nurse was holding her head. She was pretty calm though. She cried just a little. Of course she was fine right after. We went to Max's house and she was ready to play again.

Picture Taking

So today we had all the kids (Ella,Cy,and Max) picture taken. Last year it was so EASY! Ella and Max would pose perfectly. Well this year, Cyrus was all over the place. He smiles everytime I take his picture but of course not for this. Then, he kept wanting to walk and push the chair across the room. It was funny but very exhausting!!! I think we got some cute pictures.

I am hoping to take pictures of Ella at gymnastics class next Friday so I will post some pictures of her doing her tricks! Her class ends in the middle of May.

Sleep Training

So I got this from my friend's blog. I thought it was very appropiate seeing that I have yet to sleep through the night! My dear Cyrus loves to wake up! I thought it was very funny!

OK, here's my situation. My Mommy has had me for almost 7 months. The first few months were great--I cried, she picked me up and fed me, anytime, day or night. Then something happened. Over the last few weeks, she has been trying to STTN (sleep thru the night). At first, I thought it was just a phase, but it is only getting worse. I've talked to other babies, and it seems like it's pretty common after Mommies have had us for around 6 months. Here's the thing: these Mommies don't really need to sleep. It's just a habit. Many of them have had some 30 years to sleep--they just don't need it anymore. So I am implementing a plan. I call it the Crybaby Shuffle. It goes like this: Night 1--cry every 3 hours until you get fed. I know, it's hard. It's hard to see your Mommy upset over your crying. Just keep reminding yourself, it's for her own good. Night 2--cry every 2 hours until you get fed. Night 3--every hour.

Most Mommies will start to respond more quickly after about 3 nights. Some Mommies are more alert, and may resist the change longer. These Mommies may stand in your doorway for hours, shhhh-ing. Don't give in. I cannot stress this enough: CONSISTENCY IS KEY!! If you let her STTN (sleep through the night), just once, she will expect it every night. I KNOW IT'S HARD! But she really does not need the sleep, she is just resisting the change. If you have an especially alert Mommy, you can stop crying for about 10 minutes, just long enough for her to go back to bed and start to fall asleep. Then cry again. It WILL eventually work. My Mommy once stayed awake for 10 hours straight, so I know she can do it. Last night, I cried every hour. You just have to decide to stick to it and just go for it. BE CONSISTENT!

I cried for any reason I could come up with.My sleep sack tickled my foot. I felt a wrinkle under the sheet. My mobile made a shadow on the wall. I burped, and it tasted like pears. I hadn't eaten pears since lunch, what's up with that? The cat said "meow". I should know. My Mommy reminds me of this about 20 times a day. LOL. Once I cried just because I liked how it sounded when it echoed on the monitor in the other room. Too hot, too cold, just right--doesn't matter! Keep crying!! It took awhile, but it worked. She fed me at 4am. Tomorrow night, my goal is 3:30am. You need to slowly shorten the interval between feedings in order to reset your Mommies' internal clocks.

P.S. Don't let those rubber things fool you, no matter how long you suck on them, no milk will come out. Trust me.

Update

I wanted to let you know what has been going on in the Moat's house lately. On Tuesday we had a birthday party for Cy and his friend Luna. They are only 3 days apart. We had cupcakes and everyone brought a book so all the kids went home with a book.

Today we had a spring fling with the mom's club that I am in. We went to Krepps park and had a great time. Ella played for 3 hours straight! Tomorrow we are going to visit Ella's school. She will be starting St. Lukes Preschool in the fall. I am excited for her to meet her new teacher.

Loving Life as a Mom (except at 2 am)

So Chris joked that this should be my title. My poor Cyrus has double ear infections. He has NEVER been a good sleeper. Cy's doctor thinks he is getting more teeth, which is what caused the ear infections. He has been up from 11 to 2 or 3 every night this week. Then he woke up at 5 and I got him back to sleep. Then, Ella got up at 6 so I am feeling very sleep deprived. Anyways, please pray for Cy to get better and to sleep through the night!!!!! I don't think this will every happen... maybe when he is 6. LOL

Senorita Ella/Cyrus with his new hat and drum

My mother-in-law, Shirley, went to Mexico this past week. (Yes, I am very jealous!!) She gave Ella this beautiful dress, purse, and a bracelet. She gave Cyrus this cool hat and drums. I posted some pictures.
